A collage of the most fun and inspired bits of a woman’s life is what NSMBL (pronounce: ensemble) sets out to be through its digital pages. Based in Amsterdam this online magazine finds itself somewhere in between the much loved fashion blogs, such as the Dutch Sabrina from AfterDrk who along with other established bloggers also happens to provide a visual diary or DIY for NSMBL, and an actual magazine featuring a gamut of short articles from fun recipes to fashion, love and career or design. NSMBL as a title by Wayne Parker Kent was established by Anna Nikbakht Nooshin who thinks big and is growing into a force to be reckoned with. Although the site is strictly in dutch, we enjoy the visual diaries and had a chat with Anna at the headquarters.
Anna, how do you experience NSMBL as a concept?
“Basically, the idea behind NSMBL is that it represents the many emotions that a young woman experiences throughout her day. Of course we love fashion and beauty, yet the NSMBL girl is smart and also likes to read about the best in travel, career tips and the relationship to her loved ones. These reads you will find daily on NSMBL.com.”
What inspired you to start NSMBL as an online magazine?
“In 2010 and 2011 I traveled the world and when I came back I had such a strong feeling that I should be starting my own business. I longed for something that would be really different with an international scope. We were quite lucky that lots of people that encountered NSMBL loved it and spread the word. To me it was really a breakthrough that we got invited to international fashion weeks, cultural press trips and that brands like Burberry asked us to collaborate with them.”
Who do you admire professionally?
“Swedish blogger Elin Kling, because she even managed to set up her own product lines, and Christiane Amanpour from ABC News.”
Could you tell a little more about yourself as a person?
“A little difficult to say about yourself, yet I would describe myself as a hard worker who never gives up. I’d rather fail once or twice than never try anything. Also I’m very impatient and I love to set goals for myself that I can achieve.”
What do you love most about your current job as editor in chief?
“Well, that I get to visit so many special places and meeting beautiful, inspiring people on a daily basis. I feel so lucky that I turned my hobby into my job and that I also get to travel so much. Soon I will be flying to Paris for Roland Garros and then to Florence for Luisa Via Roma. Sometimes I really have to pinch myself.”
